Veronica ‘Pink Potion’ PP29681 CPBR5821 (25) Bare Root PlantsMAGIC SHOW® CollectionCommon Name: Spike Speedwell

‘Pink Potion’ produces baby pink flowers that cover the top half of the plant, a great match to ‘Wizard of Ahhs’ in terms of habit and landscape performance. The deep green foliage forms a rounded, low habit that is wider than typical and packed full of flowers.

Growers will appreciate the vigorous growth rate on this Veronica, quickly filling a pot at the same pace as the other members of the MAGIC SHOW® Collection.

Veronica is highly valued for its ease of growth and long bloom time. The spiky flowers are an excellent contrast to the more common rounded flower shapes like Shasta Daisies, Coneflower, and Black Eyed Susans. Expect bees to be buzzing about this plant when in bloom.

This perennial is tolerant of a wide range of well-drained soil types. Amending soils, especially very heavy and light types, with generous amounts of organic matter will result in improved performance. Although tolerant of partial shade, it will flower better in full sun. Deadheading will promote additional blooms. Shear back the foliage if it becomes worn-looking after flowering.

Veronica ‘Pink Potion’ is a captivating perennial that displays delicate wands of soft baby pink flowers, blooming abundantly atop a compact mound of deep green foliage. This enchanting plant is a member of the Magic Show® series, a collection of popular garden plants. Its versatility makes it an excellent choice for borders, containers, or as a charming addition to cottage gardens.

Veronica ‘Pink Potion’ grows in bushy, upright clumps, typically reaching a height of 14-16 inches and a width of 18-22 inches. The foliage consists of lance-shaped, toothed, green leaves that provide an attractive backdrop for the blossoms. This plant blooms from early to midsummer, producing thick spikes of baby pink flowers. The flowers open from the bottom upward, creating a captivating display as they sway gently above the foliage.

One of the remarkable qualities of ‘Pink Potion’ is that it represents an improvement over older Veronica varieties. The tapered and plump flower spikes are more colorful and denser in habit, resulting in a truly magical show of pink that lasts from summer to fall.

Care Requirements This low-maintenance plant thrives in full sun and average, medium moisture, well-drained soil. While it can tolerate some shade, it produces the most abundant blooms when planted in a sunny location.

  • Sunlight For optimal growth and flowering, provide Veronica ‘Pink Potion’ with at least 4-6 hours of direct sunlight daily.
  • Soil This plant prefers well-drained soil that is rich in organic matter. Amending the soil with compost or other organic matter can improve drainage and fertility, leading to healthier growth and more prolific blooms.
  • Watering While Veronica ‘Pink Potion’ is relatively drought-tolerant , it is essential to provide consistent moisture, especially during hot, dry periods. Water deeply and regularly, allowing the soil to dry slightly between waterings to prevent overwatering. It is important to avoid overhead watering, as this can increase the risk of mildew.
  • Fertilizing Feed Veronica ‘Pink Potion’ with a general-purpose slow-release fertilizer in spring before new growth begins. This will provide the necessary nutrients for healthy growth and abundant blooms throughout the season.
  • Maintenance To maintain the plant’s neat appearance and encourage continuous blooming, remove spent flowers regularly. Shearing back the foliage after flowering not only promotes additional blooms but also helps to maintain a compact shape.
  • Hardiness Zones Veronica ‘Pink Potion’ is hardy in USDA zones 4-8. This means it can withstand winter temperatures as low as -30°F (-34°C).
