Miscanthus sinensis ‘Mega Dot’ PPAF Common Name: Grass-Ornamental, Miscanthus. Zone 5 to 9, Full sun to part shade Plants reach 8 to 9 feet tall and 6 to 7 feet wide.

This gigantic Miscanthus measures up to 9 feet tall. The green leaves are wide and strappy with widely spaced, creamy yellow, horizontal banding. Before it blooms in early fall, the clump of foliage measures about 6 to 7 feet tall and wide, plenty big enough to provide privacy or make a huge statement in the landscape. Silvery cream, fluffy chenille-like flower panicles add fall and winter interest.

Miscanthus is versatile from a design standpoint; it can be used as a specimen, for massing or screening, in large containers, or at the pond’s edge. Plant this where its wonderful winter interest can be enjoyed.

This ornamental will grow in almost any soil, from loose sand to heavy clay, and does not require good drainage. Fertilization is not necessary either. Divide this in spring or early summer to give it time to establish its roots before winter arrives. Only in the mildest of climates should this be divided in the fall.
