Hemerocallis ‘Born to Run’ is a beautiful and vigorous daylily known for its striking bi-color blooms and robust growth. Here is a breakdown of what makes it special:
- Eye-Catching Bi-Color Flowers: ‘Born to Run’ boasts large, 6-inch flowers with a unique and captivating color pattern. The petals are a creamy off-white or light yellow, while the eye and ruffled edges are a vibrant, deep burgundy or reddish-purple. This striking contrast creates a bold and beautiful display.
- Reblooming Capability: One of the most desirable traits of ‘Born to Run’ is its reblooming ability. It typically blooms in early to mid-summer and then again later in the season, extending the enjoyment of its beautiful flowers. This reblooming characteristic provides a longer-lasting show of color in your garden.
- Prolific Bloomer: This daylily is a prolific bloomer, producing numerous flowers on each scape (flower stalk). You can expect a profusion of blooms during its blooming periods, creating a stunning display of color.
- Strong and Sturdy Scapes: ‘Born to Run’ has strong and sturdy scapes that hold the flowers well above the foliage. This ensures that the blooms are displayed prominently and are not hidden by the leaves. The strong scapes also make it a good choice for cut flower arrangements.
- Attractive Foliage: Even when not in bloom, ‘Born to Run’ offers visual interest with its attractive, arching, green foliage. The leaves are long and slender, creating a lush and textured backdrop for the flowers.
- Hardy and Adaptable: This daylily is known for its hardiness and adaptability. It can tolerate a wide range of growing conditions and is relatively low-maintenance once established. It is also drought-tolerant, making it a good choice for gardens in drier climates.
- Mid-Sized Growth: ‘Born to Run’ is a mid-sized daylily, typically reaching about 18-24 inches in height. This makes it a versatile choice for borders, beds, or even containers. It fits well in various garden settings without becoming too large or overwhelming.
Here are some additional points to consider about Hemerocallis ‘Born to Run’:
- Sunlight: It thrives in full sun to partial shade, requiring at least 6 hours of sunlight per day for best blooming.
- Soil: It prefers well-drained soil that is rich in organic matter.
- Watering: While drought-tolerant once established, it benefits from regular watering, especially during dry periods.
- Deadheading: Removing spent flowers will improve the appearance of the plant and may encourage more blooms.
- Division: Daylilies benefit from division every few years to prevent overcrowding and promote vigorous growth. This is best done in early spring or fall.
- Hardiness: It is generally hardy in USDA zones 3-9, making it suitable for a wide range of climates.
