Product Description
Dicentra ‘Pink Diamonds’ PP32380 CPBRAF (4) 1-gallonsCommon Name: Fern-leaved Bleeding Heart
An alpine-type bleeding heart that’s worthy of the Proven Winners name! ‘Pink Diamonds’ explodes with flowers in late spring to early summer and blooms throughout the season. Pink flowers open light pink and show a two-tone effect. Medium sized clump of fine, fern-like blue-green foliage.
This is an alpine type of bleeding heart and is not a shade plant. For best results, plant in full sun in soil with good drainage. Do not overwater or plant in an area that gets waterlogged.
Dicentra ‘Pink Diamonds’ is different from the other bleeding hearts you may be familiar with in that it is not a woodland plant. It is from high elevations in cool climates, and it can grow in full sun there, much like an alpine. It will not grow well in heavy clay soils and does not need deep, moist soils like most Dicentras. Give this one more sun than you would typically give a Dicentra, and you will be rewarded with stronger growth and more flowers.

Dicentra ‘Pink Diamonds’ is a lovely and unique bleeding heart that breaks the mold of its shade-loving relatives. It is a sun-tolerant cultivar that offers beautiful fern-like foliage and an abundance of two-toned pink flowers. Here is a closer look at what makes it special:
- Flowers: ‘Pink Diamonds’ produces a profusion of delicate, heart-shaped flowers that dangle gracefully from slender stems. The flowers are a lovely blend of pale and dark pink, with a slight curl at the tip, adding to their charm. They bloom continuously from late spring to early fall, providing a long season of color.
- Foliage: The plant has attractive, fern-like, blue-green foliage that forms a compact mound. The foliage remains fresh-looking throughout the growing season, providing a lovely backdrop for the colorful flowers.
Growing Conditions:
- Light: Unlike most bleeding hearts that prefer shade, ‘Pink Diamonds’ thrives in partial shade to full sun. It can tolerate more sun than other Dicentra varieties, but it is best to provide some afternoon shade in hot climates. The more sun it receives, the more flowers it will produce.
- Soil: Prefers moist, well-drained soil that is rich in organic matter. It is not too fussy about soil pH but does best in neutral to slightly alkaline conditions. It is important to avoid heavy clay soils, as it does not tolerate wet feet.
- Hardiness Zones: Hardy in USDA zones 3-9, making it suitable for a wide range of climates.
Uses:
- Borders and Beds: Its compact size and long blooming season make it a fantastic addition to borders, beds, and cottage gardens.
- Rock Gardens: It is also a great choice for rock gardens, where it can spill over rocks and crevices.
- Containers: ‘Pink Diamonds’ works well in containers, adding a touch of elegance to patios and decks.
- Groundcover: It can even be used as a groundcover in small areas, forming a dense mat that helps to suppress weeds.
- Underplanting Shrubs: It is also suitable for underplanting shrubs or roses, as it can tolerate some shade.
Additional Benefits:
- Long Blooming Season: It blooms continuously from late spring to early fall, providing a long season of color.
- Attracts Pollinators: The flowers attract bees and hummingbirds to the garden.
- Deer Resistant: The foliage is generally unappealing to deer.
- Low Maintenance: It is a relatively low-maintenance plant that does not require much care once established.
Overall, Dicentra ‘Pink Diamonds’ is a delightful and versatile perennial that is perfect for adding a touch of elegance and color to any garden. Its unique flowers, attractive foliage, and adaptability, especially its sun tolerance, make it a favorite among gardeners.
