Product Description

Thalictrum ‘Splendide’ Common name: Meadow Rue. Zone 3 to 8. Full sun to part shade. Plants reach 4 to 6 feet tall and 2 feet wide. Growth rate: Moderate.

‘Splendide’ forms a lacy mass of green foliage with tall, burgundy stalks bearing clouds of lavender mauve flowers with cream stamens. It typically blooms from mid through late summer. Both foliage and flowers alike are wonderful in fresh cut bouquets; a nice alternative to baby’s breath.

Thalictrum prefers dappled shade, though it will grow in full sun in northern regions with adequate water. For best results, plant in humus-rich, moist, well-drained soil. The open, airy habit of this perennial allows you to plant it closer to the front of the border with darker colors behind for an interesting see-through effect. Do not disturb it once it is established. It will live for many, many years without the need for division.

Meadow Rue is a lovely delicate architectural element for the sunny, moist border or woodland garden. Staking will likely be required if vertical habit is desired, but it can be left to lean against taller neighboring plants.
