Product Description

Cerastium tomentosum ‘Yo Yo’ Common Name: Snow in Summer. Zones 3 to 7. Full Sun. Plants reach 4 to 6 inches tall and 12 to 15 inches wide; Herbaceous perennial. Growth rate: Rapid; mat-forming perennial ground cover spreads by runners.

In late spring and early summer, clusters of white blooms form a snow-like carpet above the mat of woolly silver-gray foliage. ‘Yo Yo’ is more compact, slower spreading and less aggressive than the species. It grows especially well in northern zones where summers are cooler and less humid.

An undemanding groundcover for full sun and poor soil, Cerastium should be planted in dry, sandy, well-drained soil. Tolerant of a wide range of soils, when grown in moist, rich soil, it will spread very rapidly and be hard to contain. Foliage can be trimmed back after the plant is finished blooming to promote more compact growth. It may divided any time during the growing season.

Root rot commonly occurs in wet or poorly drained soils. Intolerant of the high summer heat and humidity of the deep South.
