Penstemon b. ‘Pink Pearls’ PP36004 CPBRAF – Proven Winners® BEJEWELED?? Collection(30)ct Flat

Common Name: Bearded PenstemonBring bright, vibrant colors to your garden with BEJEWELED™ Bearded Penstemon. This midsize series was selected for dense habits and large flowers. Each variety has strong stems holding brightly colored blooms to create a full looking plant. Lance-shaped dark blue-green foliage looks good all season long. Native to rocky hillsides in the southwestern United States, these plants thrive in areas with full sun and good drainage.

Medium pink tubular flowers appear in late spring and early summer.

Like all of our Penstemons, this one takes the heat and humidity in stride but is also very cold hardy. It continues to provide terrific color in the landscape all season long.

Penstemons are very drought tolerant perennials that are easy to grow and are rarely bothered by insects or diseases. Plant them in full sun and watch as hummingbirds feast on their delicious nectar.

Penstemons should be grown in full sun and very well-drained soil to avoid root rot. Soil fertility need only be average, but a light mulch in winter is recommended. Use Penstemons in the border, for naturalizing, and for cut flowers.

Penstemon b. ‘Pink Pearls’ is a beautiful, vibrant, and low-maintenance perennial, perfect for adding a touch of color to any garden. This mid-size penstemon, part of the BEJEWELED™ series, was specifically bred for its dense growth habit and large, bright pink flowers. These lovely blossoms emerge in early summer and continue to bloom into mid-summer. The lance-shaped, dark blue-green foliage provides an attractive backdrop to the flowers and maintains its good looks throughout the growing season.

Penstemon b. ‘Pink Pearls’ is a moderate-sized perennial with roots in the southwestern United States. It typically reaches a height of 16-20 inches and spreads to about 20-24 inches wide. The BEJEWELED™ series, including ‘Pink Pearls’, stands out from other Penstemon varieties due to its dense growth habit and large flowers, making it a real showstopper in the garden. The plant has a mounded growth habit, meaning it forms a rounded, compact mound of foliage, which makes it an excellent filler plant for borders or gardens, providing a lush and full appearance. The flowers are tubular-shaped with a distinctly pink hue. One of the key features of ‘Pink Pearls’ is its long blooming season, which provides continuous color in the garden for an extended period. It is also salt tolerant, making it a suitable choice for gardens near coastal areas or roads that are salted in winter.

Care Requirements Penstemon b. ‘Pink Pearls’ is a very drought-tolerant perennial that is easy to grow. It thrives in areas with full sun and good drainage. For optimal growth, plant it in well-drained soil with a neutral pH. If your soil is heavy or tends to retain water, amend it with gravel to improve drainage. This plant prefers drier conditions, especially during the winter months, so avoid overwatering and ensure the soil does not become waterlogged. Applying a light layer of mulch around the base of the plant in winter can help to protect the roots from extreme temperatures and conserve moisture. Once established, ‘Pink Pearls’ benefits from infrequent, deep watering, allowing the soil to dry out between waterings.

Uses Penstemon b. ‘Pink Pearls’ is a versatile plant with various uses in the garden. Its vibrant pink flowers and attractive foliage make it a great choice for borders, mass plantings, and as a focal point in the garden. It can also be used for naturalizing in informal garden settings or for creating stunning cut flower arrangements. The flowers are a rich source of nectar, attracting pollinators such as hummingbirds and bees, which contribute to the biodiversity and health of your garden.

Hardiness Zones Penstemon b. ‘Pink Pearls’ is hardy in USDA zones 4-8.

Propagation Penstemon b. ‘Pink Pearls’ can be propagated through several methods, including stem cuttings, seed sowing, and division. Stem cuttings involve taking sections of healthy stems and encouraging them to root in a suitable growing medium. Seed sowing can be done in the spring or fall, either indoors or directly outdoors, depending on your climate. Division involves separating established clumps of the plant into smaller sections, each with its own roots, and replanting them.
