Description
Liatris spicata ‘Kobold Original’ (blazing star) is a compact, upright perennial that adds strong vertical texture and saturated color without taking over your planting bed.
In midsummer, dense spikes open with deep purple, fluffy flowers that draw butterflies and other pollinators. The sturdy stems also make excellent fresh-cut stems, and the blooms dry well for long-lasting arrangements.
Plant it in full sun for the best flowering and the most upright stems. Give it average, well-drained soil and water regularly while it establishes; once rooted, it performs best with consistent moisture but should not sit in soggy winter soil.
At maturity, it typically reaches about 18-24 inches tall and spreads about 12-18 inches. Use it in borders, cottage-style plantings, native gardens, or as a repeating accent through sunny beds. It is hardy in USDA Zones 3-8.
