. Anemone hupehensis (30)ct Flat Common Name: Anemone-Japanese Zones 5 to 8. Full sun to part shade. Plants reach 30 to 36 inches tall and 24 to 30 inches wide; slow growth, spreads by creeping rhizomes.

From late summer into fall, pale pink flowers bloom on tall scapes above green foliage. The leaves resemble small grape leaves and form a mound about 1 foot tall. It can usually withstand a light frost before going dormant for the winter.

Japanese anenomes are easy to grow in the right conditions. In warmer zones, they need protection from the hot, midday sun; dappled shade is ideal. Plant them in rich, loose, well-drained soil. Dry or excessively wet soil and windy conditions can be problematic. New plants are easily transplanted in the spring. Make sure to provide heavy mulch in the fall the first two seasons to prevent frost heaving.
