Native Habitat: Campanula carpatica is native to the Carpathian Mountains, a mountain range forming an arc roughly 1,500 km long across Central and Eastern Europe. It thrives in rocky, mountainous regions, often found in crevices and slopes with well-drained soil. This origin contributes to its adaptability to rock gardens and its preference for good drainage.

Hardiness: Campanula carpatica ‘Starbright’ is a remarkably hardy perennial, thriving in a wide range of temperatures from USDA Hardiness Zones 3 through 8. This means it can withstand cold winters and hot summers across much of the United States.  

Planting and Cultivation:

1. Planting Time: Plant in spring after the last frost or in early fall to allow the plant to establish before winter.
2. Location: Choose a location that receives full sun (at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily) for the best flowering. In hotter southern climates, afternoon shade can help prolong the bloom period and keep the foliage looking its best.  
3. Soil Preparation: Ensure the soil is moist but very well-drained. Amend heavy clay soils with compost or other organic matter to improve drainage. While adaptable, it prefers slightly acidic to neutral soil.
4. Planting: Dig a hole slightly larger than the root ball. Gently remove the plant from its container and place it in the hole, ensuring the top of the root ball is level with the surrounding soil. Fill the hole with soil and lightly firm it down. Water thoroughly after planting.  
5. Watering: Water regularly, especially during the first growing season, to help establish a strong root system. Once established, ‘Starbright’ has average water needs. Avoid overwatering, which can lead to root rot.
6. Fertilizing: Feed with a balanced, all-purpose garden fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges to encourage vigorous growth and abundant flowering.  
7. Deadheading: Remove spent flowers regularly to encourage continuous blooming throughout the summer and maintain a tidy appearance.
8. Maintenance: In early spring, clean away any dead or damaged foliage from the previous year. Light thinning of crowded stems can also improve air circulation.  
9. Winterizing: In colder regions (Zones 3-5), a light layer of mulch can be applied in late fall to help protect the crown of the plant during winter.
