Product Description
Campanula persicifolia’Viking’ PP21021 (30)ct Flat Common Name: Bellflower, willow bell. Zones 5 to 8. Full Sun to Part Shade. Plants reach 15 to 18 inches tall and 18 to 24 inches wide; Rosette-forming, upright, glabrous herbaceous perennial. Growth rate: Moderate, semi-evergreen, floriferous sterile hybrid.
Eggplant purple, torpedo-shaped buds open to large, lilac purple, bell-shaped blossoms measuring 2.5 inches long. The lightly fragrant blossoms are produced at every node up the purplish flower stems in early summer. The basal rosette of serrated, deep green leaves multiplies each year, with new flowering stems arising from each new rosette.
Easily grown in average, medium moisture, well-drained soil; but grows best in fertile soil with a neutral to alkaline pH. Keep the soil moist but make sure it is well-drained. Members of this group will grow in either full sun or partial shade, though some shade is recommended in areas with very hot summers, as it is generally intolerant of the extreme heat. The delicate flower colors are best preserved with some shade.
Cut plants back hard, to basal rosettes, after flowering to keep them more compact, and to promote a second flush of blooms. Though ‘Viking’ is a C. punctata hybrid, it is much more well-behaved and does not spread rapidly by stolens like some punctatas can.
This variety lends itself well to containers or as a filler in the middle of the flower border.
Attributes: Border plants, Container, Cut flower or foliage, mass planting in lightly shaded woodland areas can be left alone to naturalize. Attracts hummingbirds.
Thirty (30) plants per flat (or tray). Approximate Plug Measurements: 3 inches deep x 2 inches wide.
