CareEvergold grass is a sedge with long, narrow, gracefully arching leaves in a mounded, fountain-like form perfect for shady or moist spots. It has bi-color leaves that are sandy gold in color with dark green edging along their entire length.
One of many cultivars of , ‘Evergold’ sedge is native to the mountains of Japan, where it grows in wetland areas of higher altitudes.
A perennial, cool-season ornamental grass, ‘Evergold’ sedge will typically grow in two flushes, one in the cool temperatures of spring and another in fall. Spring flowers are upright, with unique, milk chocolate-colored blooms.
Deer resistant and rugged, this easy-to-grow variegated sedge is an excellent border choice for beds and won’t overtop the other plants you have nearby. Its arching shape and steady evergreen color provide early and late-season variety.

Grass CareEvergold is hardy to USDA zones 5-10. It will tolerate a little more direct sunlight in the northern portion of its range. Gardeners in the warmer portions of the range should only plant ‘Evergold’ sedge in dappled sunlight or light shade.
‘Evergold’ sedge will grow best in dappled sunlight. It will also be fine in partial shade, enjoying the morning sun. Planting in full sun may cause bleaching and fading of the foliage.
‘Evergold’ sedges like soil that is fertile and high in organic matter and, like most sedges, are tolerant of wet sites. Water deeply and regularly during the first growing season after transplanting. Once they are well-established, they should need little care.
If planting in a container, use any good-quality potting miand add some coconut coir to aid water retention. Keep it well-watered but not soggy.

This sedge will be 10-16 inches tall and wide when it settles in. It will spread slowly and is easily controlled. Mature plants can be divided in spring or fall.

CareEvergold Pruning Needs
Evergold caregrass does not need pruning, but can be cleaned up, and old stems cut back in winter before the new growth flush of spring arrives. It can be gently combed with a leaf rake to help separate the older dead leaves and make trimming easier. Don’t cut it back to less than a third of the original plant.
