Echinacea ‘The Price is White’ PP33631 CPBRAF (30)ct FlatCOLOR CODED® CollectionCommon Name: Coneflower

Very wide, overlapping, horizontal white petals with a green cone and yellow pollen. Flowers are 5″ wide and held overtop dark green foliage.

These varieties are produced clonally from tissue culture, so all plants will be identical in color and habit. These varieties were selected for their excellent basal branching, flower performance, large flower size, and horizontally held petals. Enjoy these as late summer interest for your garden. These are perfect varieties as pollinator magnets and during late fall to winter the seed heads will serve as food for birds. Two new colors join the collection!

Praised for their cheerful brightly colored flowers, coneflowers are a mainstay in today’s garden. Be sure to leave some spent blooms on the plants in the fall because their seeds provide winter food for finches and other birds. The dried seed heads also provide architectural interest in the winter.

Coneflowers like it sunny and hot. Though they will tolerate light shade, fewer flowers will be produced, and the plants will be weakened. Light, loamy soils are best, but coneflowers will grow in any well-drained soil. Once established, they are quite drought tolerant. If properly cared for, they will form attractive colonies and will live for many years.

Echinacea ‘The Price is White’ is a stunning coneflower that brings a touch of pure elegance to the garden with its pristine white blooms. Here is a breakdown of its key features:

  • Pure White Flowers: As the name suggests, ‘The Price is White’ is prized for its large, pure white flowers. These blooms are typically around 5 inches across, with wide, overlapping petals that are held horizontally, creating a full and showy appearance. The central cone starts as a greenish-yellow and may mature to a slightly darker shade, providing a subtle contrast to the white petals.
  • Compact and Uniform Growth: This coneflower is known for its compact and uniform growth habit. It typically reaches about 20-22 inches in height and 16-18 inches in width, making it a great choice for smaller gardens, containers, or for those who prefer a more compact and tidy plant. The uniform growth habit also ensures that all plants will have a consistent appearance, creating a cohesive look in the garden.
  • Long Blooming Period: ‘The Price is White’ blooms from mid to late summer, providing a long-lasting display of white flowers. With deadheading, you can encourage even more blooms and extend the flowering period. The continuous blooming ensures a beautiful and vibrant garden throughout the summer months.
  • Attracts Pollinators: Like other coneflowers, ‘The Price is White’ is a magnet for pollinators such as butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds. It is a valuable addition to any garden designed to support these important creatures. The flowers provide a rich source of nectar, and the seeds are also enjoyed by birds in the fall.
  • Deer Resistant: It is also deer-resistant, making it a good choice for gardens where deer are a problem. Deer tend to avoid coneflowers because of their rough foliage and bitter taste.
  • Low Maintenance: ‘The Price is White’ is a relatively low-maintenance plant that is easy to grow. It is drought-tolerant once established and is also relatively pest and disease resistant.
  • Versatile Use: ‘The Price is White’ can be used in a variety of ways in the landscape. It is a great choice for adding color to borders, containers, or even as a mass planting. It also works well in cut flower gardens, as the flowers are long-lasting in vases.

Here are some additional points to consider about Echinacea ‘The Price is White’:

  • Sunlight: It thrives in full sun, requiring at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day for best blooming.
  • Soil: It prefers well-drained soil but is adaptable to various soil types as long as the drainage is good.
  • Watering: Once established, it is relatively drought-tolerant, but regular watering during the first year will help it establish a strong root system.
  • Pruning: Deadheading spent flowers will encourage more blooms and help maintain a tidy appearance. In late fall or early spring, you can cut back the stems to the ground.
  • Hardiness: It is generally hardy in USDA zones 4-8, making it suitable for a wide range of climates.

Echinacea ‘The Price is White’ is a delightful and easy-to-grow perennial that will bring a touch of pure elegance to your garden. Its pristine white blooms, compact growth habit, and long blooming period make it a versatile choice for various garden settings. It is a great option for adding a pop of white to borders, containers, or even as a mass planting. And its ability to attract pollinators and resist deer makes it a valuable addition to any garden.
