Description

Cooling shade in the summertime and flaming color in the fall — everything you want in a landscaping tree is right before your eyes! The Firefall™ Freeman Maple (Acer freemanii ‘AF 1’) not only offers the perfect shade tree but also an autumn showstopper with incredible orange-red leaves!

This tree is a hybrid of an Autumn Spire Red Maple with its fiery red-hot autumn coloration and a Beebe Cutleaf Silver Maple that gives it its noteworthy, elegant lacy leaves! You’ll see bees seeking out the flower clusters, but there’s no worry about messy whirligigs in the summer or seedlings popping up everywhere because Firefall™ is a seedless cultivar too!

Are you in need of a vertical accent to bring your landscaping together? Then this Maple tree is calling your name! Growing 40 – 50 feet tall and with open spreading limbs 30 – 40 feet wide, Firefall™ quickly reaches its mature size without making you wait! This University of Minnesota release grows throughout USDA planting zones 4 to 7!

ProPlantTips for Care:

Plant this special Freeman Maple with plenty of elbow room. It is an easy-to-care-for tree that should be planted in full sun with well-drained soil to ensure its optimal growth. Provide new trees with regular moisture access and a 3-4 inch deep layer of mulch to protect their roots. Lawn trees should especially have a mulch buffer to protect the trunk from damage. Prune if needed in late winter or very early in the spring, but after the sap has run to prevent sticky drips and leaks.

Remember to situate your tree at least 15-20 feet from paved areas, septic tanks, and your foundation as Maple trees have roots that are very advantageous.
