Description

Anjou (D’Anjou) is one of the most versatile and reliable European pears—smooth, sweet, and gently aromatic with excellent storage ability. It remains green even when ripe, but softens to a juicy, buttery texture ideal for fresh eating, salads, and winter storage. Anjou fruit holds its shape when cooked, making it one of the best all-purpose pears. This Anjou pear grows on a semi-dwarfing rootstock, keeping the mature tree in the manageable 12–15 ft range—easy for pruning, harvesting, and long-term care. The semi-dwarf habit also improves productivity and keeps fruit quality high while still offering strong vigor. Anjou is not self-fertile and requires another European pear nearby for pollination. Compatible partners include Bartlett, Comice, Bosc, Seckel, and Harrow Sweet.
