      Introduced in 1941, Shinko (translates as “New Success”) is an open-pollinated seedling of Nijiseiki and is prized for it’s reliable production of sweet, rich and flavorful fruit. They are medium to large in size with bronze colored skin. The flesh is an off-white color and is delightfully sweet with a wonderfully satisfying crunch. Shinko is has a very upright growth habit and is highly productive. It is best to thin the crops some to prevent limb breakage and to maintain annual bearing. The fruit ripens about 2 weeks before Olympic and can be stored for three to four months in a refrigerator.  One of the most disease resistant varieties of Asian Pear, Shinko is much less susceptible to fireblight than most and also shows good resistance to bacterial canker. These strengths make this variety an excellent choice for those who prefer to spray as little as possible. 

Partially self-fertile – can produce fruit alone, but will produce more if planted near a different variety of Asian Pear.
