Common Name: Birdfoot Violet, Mountain PansyA selection of the US native Birdfoot Violet, distinct in the Violet world for its bi-color flowers and narrow dissected foliage resembling that of a bird’s foot. ‘Eco Artist Palette’ forms a dense clump of foliage that is covered in flowers beginning in spring. The superior petals are a dark purple while the lateral and interior petals are a lilac blue. Expect sporadic rebloom until fall frost.

Unlike other Violets the Birdfoot Violet requires full sun and well drained soils to thrive. This species also has improved garden performance compared with the genus and is considerably less “weedy.” In 25 years of observing Viola pedata we have yet to see a seedling.
